That is what edges me towards this deal. Payet's best years are going to be similar so strike now, I guess.

And he is not supposed to be on that massive a wage so if we save 15m and some wages as compared to a younger signing who has scored a similar number of goals, might be worth it.

Still prefer someone younger, but can see a logic to it and would not be displeased at all.

Re: Carlos Bacca
You also forgot to mention that he could get a career ending injury during his first training session with us.

Thought I'd also point out that potential downside, for anyone that apparently can't think for themselves.....

I agree with the potential upsides. Just stating the potential downsides for those who seem to be unsure.

Re: Carlos Bacca
If a £20m striker gets a club of our size in the Champsies, I'd say thats good value for money?

What does your Baseyian probability method tell you Bacca is 'worth'???

Re: Carlos Bacca
Who cares if he's scores a load of goals for us during that time, eh Alex?

It's all about the RESALE value of him.

Re: Carlos Bacca
The likelihood is we'd get next to nothing for him in 2 years time (or be stuck with him for the duration of his contract), and that he'd begin to be on the decline as a player at some point in the next year or two if not already. That's the potential downside, and it's a considerable one.

Re: Carlos Bacca
He's Payet's age, 2 years younger than Ronaldo and 5/6 than Ibrahimovic.

Top players are so fit now that at 28-32 it's the pinnacle. The fact he's goals have improved the older he has got suggest this with him too.

Re: Carlos Bacca
He's only been at AC for one season, but he's very much a fan favourite there (source: Italian bloke at work).

Scored a load of goals for Saville when they won the UEFA cup twice in a row, and scored a load of goals wherever he's been.

I think he's very much worth the risk.

would you have been happy with payet's season if we had?

Haha he's 29 ffs!

Re: Carlos Bacca
Too old? Do you think that of Payet also? They're the same age.

Josh 4:11 Wed Jun 1
Re: Carlos Bacca
Disagree with the age thing and how much he's worth.

We'll more than likely be looking for another top striker in 2 years anyway so get two good seasons minimum out of a striker who knows where the back of the net is.

Sign him up, Slav.
